Obama Newspapers/ The Rap World Conversation

Some papers that I bought. This is History I want my Children to see this, and Grandchildren.

I got home from work at about 2:30 am. I went to the Newsstand around the same time. I wanted to know when those Newspapers were coming in. The guy in the store told me at about 5:30-6:00 am. So I told him I'll be back. I went home and started messing around with the computer and my Turntables. I even watched a little Television until the early morning. The first papers I got was the New York Post and the Newsday. I waited for the Daily News and The New York Times until some later hours. I was done getting all my papers at about 9:00 am. I've seen it all in between the time that I was waiting for the paper and by the time I left. The clerk in the store was pushing papers like Crack. He started charging people anywhere between $5.00-10.00 per paper. People were going ballistic. He charged one guy $5.00 each for the Post and Daily News. The guy made himself a Coffee in the store and said "He's not paying for it, call the Cops and tell them. I don't care" It was hilarious. I've seen hundreds of people come in for the paper(s) this morning. From old to young, Black, Hispanic, White.

I got the chance to build a little bit with several people. A young man that lived about a block away from me, we had a great conversation about 90's Hip-Hop to what's going on right now. Another Brother a little bit older than us got in the conversation too, while messing with his Lottery scratch offs and waiting for his paper. The Thesis was that Music from that Golden Age was critiqued on a different level. Everything had to be hot, It was so much competition. It just forced all those Emcees of the time to be creative. No one ever used someone else's techniques to do recordings in terms of plug-ins and effects. More stories were told. The beats moved you to the point that you would rewind a song about 4-5 times in a row and that was a cassette tape. Styles were original. Even clothing was original. I miss that time in Rap, that's what I fell in Love with, the assortment of greatness. I seen Rap change and go in a different direction through the years, things have been more glamorous. Video girls getting more shine in magazines than the rappers on the tracks. I Like rap music from the East, West, and South. I should call out some names, but I'll save the specifics for a different post. Music that's out now isn't bad, It's just a different time and generation. The Internet has really took over that sector. There are still less great albums coming out every year and less honorable mentions. But that's what people like now a days. So to each its own. It's a business first and foremost. The Label executives put records out to make money and Artist do it to make money. I'm not paying there bills and there lavish lifestyles, I'm just a passionate ear listening to get a fix of sonic melodic quality. I understand recording techniques because I was trained in that area. So I know good recordings and bad ones. There are ways to make people sound good. From Vintage Microphones to Vacuum tube channel strips and following the basic principles in capturing a great recording. Get a good take and don't try to fix It in the post. Technology is vastly improving every year. So I guess more and more people are going to try to record. As a listener you just go differentiate what you like and what you want to hear.
