illy my favorite Coffee

I was never much of a coffee drinker, up until a few months ago. I have learned since then to appreciate an excellent cup of coffee, without sugar, occasionally black, usually with a little milk. I believe I have found my favorite, which happens to be illy. I drink a cup almost everyday on my way to work or during a break. It has a very smooth not to bold taste, but strong enough to keep you alert for a few hours, without the crash and the effects from It. I have been trying to figure out If I should purchase a traditional coffee maker or a french press to brew my own. That's another story though. -Pat King

"The Elements of F*cking Style" by Chris Baker and Jacob Hansen, is a fun reference. I highly recommend this for the library. Many of us have been out of school for a while, and don't always practice proper grammar. We forget the rules, so this little handy book will definitely remind us of what was learned in elementary school in a cool way. -Pat King

Big Sean at SOBs Def Jam Cipher sessions October 26, 2010

I got a chance to go to SOBs located in New York City and check out the Def Jam Cipher hosted by Heavy Hitter DJ Enuff. G-Unit President/Def Jam executive Sha Money XL who help put the event together was in attendance, as well as some other hip hop insiders. Bx native Rappers Mickey Factz and Cory Gunz came out and dropped some dope bars. The place was filled with people. 1800 Tequila was giving out free shots most of the night. Mostly everyone was anticipating Kanye West G.O.O.D music signee Big Sean. Who took over the house for the night. Fan's were going line for line with him. He performed tracks from the "Finally Famous 3" mixtape. Which is a good listen. I got a great position and took some photos and shot some video. I had a good time despite the extreme heat of the place. Here are a few shots below.

Damu the Fudgemunk This 26 year old is a Beatmaker/Producer/DJ I used to watch on You Tube when I worked the night shift In 2005-2006 when I got out of college. I immediately noticed his raw talent, respect to the Golden Age sound with a contemporary swing on It. His tracks used to keep me awake some nights on the company eMac at my work area. It's been 4 long years later. Enough time todo undergrad studies again, grad school, law school, or Medical school. None of the above I'm Interested In. Damu came a long way dropping some great videos and excellent song, album releases. I feel like he has been overlooked due to the commercial music Industry and the direction It has shifted In. It's not about the Golden Age sound, or tough guy gun clapping persona anymore. Nowadays It about having a good time, getting fresh, smoking, liquor, girls, money. There's nothing wrong with that but this DC native maintains the essence check out these excellent videos below. Can't forget he used to hold us down with some insane Instrumentals. This video has been out for a little while, actually since the end of summer. I recently came across It myself. The video is basic, but It was shot clean, has multiple angles of shots and focuses. It's the concept with the model that is lip syncing his lyrics throughout the video that make's It very cool. I Love the beat, It's smooth, something that I would produce. Check It out and Big Sean's "Finally Famous 3" worth listening to. The Rapper has several cuts that's in my Rotation right now. Kanye West did a G.O.O.D job by recruiting him.

This is an old video, but this is one of the smartest marketing initiatives that Toyota decided to take. The Toyota family, Swagger Wagon with there series of hilarious commercials. I've been a long time supporter of Toyota with my first few cars being a Toyota Camry and Lexus GS 430 (Expensive Toyota). Two of my favorite vehicles that I ever drove, besides my current ride. I was in a new Toyota Sienna over the weekend and the features were great even In the last passenger row with A/C on full blast.

This event was put together to celebrate the game of basketball from the origins to where It's going. Divine's 40th Birthday Party. This Man is a friend, father, brother, uncle, cousin, husband, comedian, and Barber to many including me. I knew Divine for a lot of years he's been giving me nice cuts since my last years of high school when my older brother Moe started taking me to his shop. The party was at 8906 Ditmas Ave. In Brooklyn. The ambiance was cool. The people had a good time. Anyone that knows Divine Knows how much of a big Michael Jackson fan he is. If you weren't there you missed out on some special performance's including the MJ emulation by a fan/performer and Divine, also a rap performance by Divine's Nephews and nieces. My Peoples from Pocket Change Entertainment threw there annual BBQ and It was great as usual. It didn't take too long for the backyard to get packed. Good Music, Good Food and Drinks, Good people, Good times. It was fun though, I enjoyed myself and I know everyone did to until the boys shut it down around three am. Water is Fancy Huh?

You want to live fancy. Start off by drinking this water. (Just kidding) With so much different water on the market how do you choose the Good one's from the okay ones. There's artesian, there's Spring, there's tap (no we don't drink that without boiling It, unless It's an absolute emergency) Yes water does taste different, If you don't believe just put your taste buds to the test. Try out Deer Park, Aquafina, Dasani and then something like Fiji, or Smart Water. Better yet try out Voss or something like Ty nant. But almost any water will taste great when your extremely parched. So try them while your not. I still know It's a debate that will never end. I recently had a bottle of Saratoga that water connoisseur City got me while at the recent Cargo trade show. First of all the presentation when he took It out of a Dean & Deluca bag was something I have never seen before, It was kind of Impressive. The taste was good too. Next time you have the chance to drink something other than Poland Spring experiment a little because different waters contain different minerals and other ingredients like wild harvested flowers that are good for you. Go Quench your thirst naturally!

Good to get away from NYC

Sometimes It is good to get away from New York City, even If It's for a weekend across the water. New Jersey is definitely a country like state, especially by the Jersey Shore/Long Branch area. Nothing like my trip down to Miami, Florida by Car that I did last summer. I drove over 20 hours by myself with my two little nieces with me. I would love to do It again, but this Nike Basketball festival I'm working on It is keeping me occupied for most of the summer.

Over the last month I have been taking a liking to being in the City whether I'm on business or leisure. I have fun, most of the time I'm with one of the other thirds of the Original Heads, City. Hey world I know its been forever and a day but im back! My topic of choice is my T-mobile Blackberry and the wooorrrrrrrsssttt loaner phone ever! So my crackberry has been on the fritz for a couple weeks and it finally gave out on me. At least its kind enough to turn on and let me know it has a Jum Error 102 whatever the hell that is !!!!!!!!! Oh and the option to reset only to be hit with the very same screen. RIM thank you so much for the consideration whoopdeedooo!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and t-mobile thank you sooooooooooo much for the greatest phone on the planet it's even better than the iphone 4 and the evo! What phone you may be wondering the super spectacular amazing TAP its revolutionary with is super slow touch screen recognition and and the way it continuously buzzes when your speaking to someone on the phone !!!!!!!!!!! Among its others stupendous features yup then again what can expect from a generic loaner phone. This really grinds my gears !!!!!!!!!!! On a lighter note i was able to really reflect and realize how much i was really stuck in the matrix. Its cool to remove yourself from it from time to time i was too connected ! The moral stuff happens and just take it in stride. Whatever comes your way deal with it you will survive I did!!

Shannon Matesky is dope and on point. I agree with her. I'm personally not the biggest fan of social networking sites. I know over the last couple of years people have gotten breaks through these sites, but at the same time It is taking away verbal communication and the original way of interacting. At times It can be very annoying and times It can be beneficial. To communicate with someone from overseas whether It be a loved one a music or fashion collaboration. I'm all for It. Some people spend hours and days creating a near perfect profile with no purpose but to kill time and entertain themselves. Think about how much more constructive and successful one can be If they put that time and energy into learning cinematography, web design from scratch, making music, making art, reading a book with substance. I'm still in the middle of that debate. But I know These sites won't be going anywhere anytime soon. The big boy bucks is part of the equation. Shannon's delivery and execution is excellent. It is Worth watching, Check It out.

Been Missing in Action

Yeah I Know the Original Heads have been missing in action. I personally have been taking the time to reflect on my life and assessing the path I'm headed. It's positive but at times I feel It's slow motion but still better than none at all. There's times when I have so much ideas in my head and I just want to get them all out at once. I have been putting things into perspective along with my partners. From my last couple post I have grown and matured a lot. I have rekindled my passion for fashion. Although I haven't really worked on any new music lately, but that's still coming. I realized It's time to step It up and get a real camera. An SLR should be in my possession very soon. Two days into the 2010 New Year Rapper Foxy Brown came through to Wealthy Ho$tage in Flatbush, Brooklyn. I was the first person to greet her when she came into the store. I admit I have been a big fan of her since my junior high school days in '96 when "Ill Na Na" debuted. I had the opportunity to build with Foxy for almost half an hour in between getting some kicks for her. All types of miscellaneous conversation came up. She showed me so much love, and she was so cool. She called me a Dougla, we both got Trinidadian bloodlines. She got that good hair too. I didn't get a chance to take a picture with her, but next time perhaps. I did get a picture of her dope Louis Vuitton Shoe boots while she was trying on some Nike Air Max '97's to workout In. (Foxy Boogie like I told you, I got those beats for you, lol.)

The truth is Haiti needed some Help before this disaster devasted the country. It is the poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere for many reasons. For one they don't really export anything that generates big profits, like oil for example. But this is no time to lament on things like that. This is the time to step up and help out in anyway possible. It can be anything can goods, water, clothing, sneakers. Don't forsake people in need this is great adversity there breathing in daily for many year's. With this year being one of the worst. You don't have to be some NGO to do something. I got a chance recently to go check out one of my best friend's DJ Treats play. Here are some pictures of Treats doing his thing on the wheels at 305 Spring Street in New York City. He was working hard that night. He can really move a crowd. If you ever see a flyer with his name on It check It out, It will be dope. He will "lay some Treats on 'em" He's also Theophilus London's Official DJ and has been on tour with him abroad, hitting several cities up in the UK. To be honest the first time I ever heard J.Cole was on Jay-Z's Blueprint 3. It's weird we went to the same school around the same years and I never had a class with him and we never bumped into each other. I graduated in 2006 and he did in 2007. My last year in St.Johns I was in Recording Engineering school and attended the Manhattan Campus for my regular St.John's class, I still had to take. But anyway I went back and downloaded "The Come Up" and "The Warm Up" . Still listening to It, It sounds good. The kid is good. I Like the track he did on the Kanye Half price beat "College Boy". North Carolina produces a lot of good Rapper's believe It or not, Look at Little Brother (Phonte and Big Pooh) which is my favorite Hip Hop group. I drove through the whole North Carolina on my way to Florida bumping all of there music. Shout to the 919. I checked J.Cole's brief documentary "A Star Is Born" and love It. Hey Karsten from Imperial Marketing/Frshpulp what's up I see you in the video trying to capture your own footage laugh out loud. Perhaps we will cross paths someday, but till then keep doing your thing Jermaine. You got my support we're a part of the same Alma Mater. Take them back to Marillic on the album boi.

My take on Asher Roth "His Dream"

This is an excellent, well written song by the young MC known as Asher Roth. This song has really touched me because many people come from broken homes and some don't. I was fortunate up until I was about to start college. When my parents got divorced. It affected me, but It hit my younger brother and sister harder. People don't understand when your so used to someone being there in your life daily to be your backbone and support. Then that person is prematurely gone, that can be detrimental to your success in this tough world. Much respect to Asher's father. The meaning of the song below is deep. I got this from Ruby Hornet

"Nobody knows about this song but this song is written about my father and my relationship with my father. I think it’s hella interesting in Hip-Hop especially that the father is the figure that always walks out and wasn’t there. There’s always this glorification of a broken home, and don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful thing to share that story, but in my household my father was the one who kind of packed it in when he had kids. He started having children and when he had his first child he was like, “alright, I can’t be running around and trying to chase my dream.” And his dream was that he wanted to be a writer and free lance writing doesn’t pay the bills like that and now he’s got mouths to feed so he packed it in and gets a job and those sacrifices to me were incredible. His dream was special to me because my father was like, ‘take it off the album, I don’t want it on the album, it’s embarrassing to me because I didn’t do anything. All I did was take on the responsibility of a parent.” And I was like, “exactly!” People do not do that, they have these kids and they continue to just do what they do and the next thing you hear is that the father walks out on his son and you weren’t there for me and this and that.

So I wrote a song about his dream, and my father’s dream after he packed it in with writing was making sure that I was happy and making sure that I was doing something that I loved to do. So he put it all to the side and just decided to be a responsible parent and to me, we should be glorifying that, not glorifying the fact that pops decided to walk out. For me, it's a very special song, my dad has been a main stay and making sure that I’m healthy and happy. Every time I have a problem he is there to help me talk about it and I think it’s very important to understand that. You might come from a broken home, a lot of people do. You see marriage – what the divorce rate is crazy – so to have parents that have stayed together is a luxury. I’m absolutely blessed, and I just want people to understand the sacrifices. A lot of the time people get into these relationships and they get married and they're in lust and they love each other on that love, but when they have children they raise kids differently and it’s the children that actually get in the way. It's interesting because some parents will stay together for the kids and I think that’s really important. I’m sure he had some moments where – because my mom is completely left and he is completely right, he is very strict and my mom is a free spirit so they’re total opposites – but my dad stuck it out and was very much a pillar in my life and the reason why I am successful to this day and I think it's important for people to understand. Kids flip out sometimes when their parents ground them and the “I hate you, I hate you!” and they don’t realize the sacrifices their parents have to make on a daily to drive them to baseball practice or to their friends house or anything like that. There are daily sacrifices that parents have to make to make their kids happy and I really want people to understand that. So “His Dream” is a very special record to me in the sense of not only is it personal in the sense that this is my relationship with my father, but on a broader sense it is glorifying the fact that something as simple as being a responsible parent. I think it’s important that people understand that.”
